A Late Night Snack

A Late Night Snack

Whether you are picking out movies for your girls night, putting the final touches on your favorite smokey eye look, or hitting the books just in time for next week's midterms, it's Friday, and you deserve a treat! My go-to snack? The one guaranteed to satisfy any mid-day boredom or late night craving? Popcorn!

Before I left for college, I was gifted an air popper. Pour half a cup of kernels in and two minutes later you are enjoying a guilt free snack, with plenty extra to share. Needless to say, throughout college and particularly for the two years I lived in a sorority house, the air popper was a huge hit. It was a routine that brought the whole house together, rushing to make fresh popcorn before our favorite shows started, or making sure everyone had eaten a little something before heading out for the night. Regardless, even as a post grad living in a studio apartment, air-popped popcorn remains at the top of snacking list.

There are a million ways to enjoy, a little olive oil and salt for the classic popcorn taste and guilt-free indulgence. Craving something salty and sweet? Melt some dark chocolate chips and pour over top. (You can even just put chocolate chips in the bowl right after the popcorn has been made, the heat will melt the chips!)

Looking to impress? Sprinkle garlic powder over top or paprika for a gourmet popcorn. (First shake with olive oil to bind spices to the popcorn!)  Pair with a glass of wine, and you are well on your way to being the next Olivia Pope!

I prefer the Trader Joe's Organic Popcorn Kernels. One bag costs $1.99 and you get at least 12 servings!

I hope that however you spend your Friday, you do so deliciously! Share your favorite popcorn recipes in the comments below or on instagram @yourkitchenprescription!

P.S. If you are using an air popper, make sure to only ad your toppings after your popcorn has popped. Adding additional ingredients (even oil or butter) while the kernels are in the popper could damage the machine.
